New Zealand’s own, New York based B3 organ powerhouse, vocalist, composer and band leader Adrienne Fenemor is unleashing her brand new album Mo’ Puddin’ in NZ this month, including a performance at Kapiti Playhouse in Paraparaumu.
Born in New Zealand into a musical family, Adrienne acquired her first organ in 2003 when she imported a Hammond C3 from Canada and with no jazz organ players in NZ, she taught herself to play by copying recordings by Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Groove Holmes and Jack McDuff. After performing in clubs and at festivals throughout New Zealand and Australia, Adrienne moved to the USA in 2008.
Adrienne is a singer pianist extraordinaire, with 9 cruise ship contracts under her belt as well as performances in top New York hotels including the Waldorf Astoria, the Russian Tea Rooms and the Hilton. From October 2014 she spent six months as the resident hotel pianist and vocalist at the 5 star Park Hyatt Hotel in Busan.
Wherever Adrienne goes, she receives great reviews. Audiences world-wide agree Adrienne is a fantastic entertainer with CDs released on several record labels in Asia, New Zealand and the USA.
Since its release in April, Mo’ Puddin’ has quickly made its way up to the number 4 position in the CMJ Jazz Charts USA. Recorded in NYC with master musicians Peter Bernstein and Willie Jones III, this album is an original spin on the rich tradition of the B3, guitar, drums instrumentation. The tracks on Mo’ Puddin’ have been carefully crafted and feature three B3 classic covers and 6 original compositions written by Adrienne, each with its own flavour, audacity and infectious groove.
For her performance at Kapiti Playhouse, Adrienne will be sharing the stage with amazing musicians, New York based New Zealander Mark Lockett on drums, and Wellington guitarist Noel Clayton. You can look forward to a concert with explosive organ-based music filled with swing and swagger in addition to Adrienne’s tasty vocal stylings.
